Providing energy security and underpinning sustainable food for export

Ahead of the Bioenergy Association Annual General Meeting, the Executive Officer and the three Interest Group Conveners will present a short overview of the bioenergy and biofuels sectors, along with current Association activities across the solid, liquid and gaseous biofuel streams.

The 2024/25 period has been a pivotal one for bioenergy and biofuels.  In fact, more policy and programme activity took place during these two years than in the previous 24 combined.  Government policies at the time encouraged investor confidence, driving significant sector growth and laying a strong foundation for the future. This had a big impact on the business of each participant in the sector.

While many of those programmes have since closed, new and powerful drivers are shaping the sector:

  • Strengthening New Zealand’s energy security and resilience
  • Creating fresh income opportunities for the forestry, agriculture and horticulture sector from the processing of production residues
  • Supporting exporters to meet buyer requirements that food is grown and processed using sustainable energy, as well as providing exporters with cost-effective industrial heat.

The briefing will highlight the opportunities for business growth across the sector.  The AGM documents are available in the members only area of the BANZ website.
