Dobbie is an award-winning mechanical engineering consulting practice. Approximately 80% of our mechanical design work is for process industries (dairy, pulp and paper) or for other industrial sites (power stations, steel mills, food processors, timber and fibreboard mills). The balance of our work is building services (hotels, hospitals) and machine designs (pressure vessels, cranes, conveyors, tanks) or investigations (accidents, fires).

Jim Dobbie established the firm in September 1990 and it now operates from offices in Rotorua and Auckland.

Dobbie provides a wide range of services within the mechanical engineering field. We can provide technical reports, feasibility studies, cost estimates, layout of plants, equipment selection and detailed design. Our responsibilities often include the preparation of specification and tender documentation, contract administration and site inspection. Dobbie is regularly involved with the specification, evaluation and selection of bioengergy (biomass boilers, geothermal energy) heat plants for our clients.

The firm is a member of the Association of Consulting Engineers of New Zealand, and both Dobbie offices are certified as complying with ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems.
