Gasification’s role in supporting Europe’s energy transition

The European Biogas Association (EBA) has released a comprehensive paper alongside an interactive map detailing operational and under-construction gasification plants across Europe. This initiative highlights the potential of gasification technology in shaping the continent’s future energy system.

Currently, Europe hosts approximately 141 biomass and waste gasification facilities, with an additional 54 projects in development. Forestry and agricultural residues make up 75% of the feedstock used in these plants, while waste streams contribute around 7%. The remaining facilities utilise a mix of feedstock sources.
