Regional Energy Transition Accelerator (RETA)

Regional Energy Transition Accelerator (RETA), an EECA reportEECA has released the Regional Energy Transition Accelerator (RETA) report for Wellington. The RETA programme provides a comprehensive understanding of the actions that could be taken to enhance energy efficiency, bolster supply security and significantly reduce emissions across New Zealand regions.  This report explores how Wellington’s process heat demand could evolve over time, identifying a pathway that combines energy efficiency improvements with a shift toward lower-emissions technologies. The report shows that the marginal abatement cost (MAC) optimal pathway could reduce process heat emissions by 82% by 2048 through a combination of 48 large heat pumps and 12 biomass boilers.
