Technical Note BB06: Bioenergy support programmes
under review
New Zealand does not provide direct subsidies project specific grants for renewable energy development. Instead, the Government applies a light-handed approach to renewable energy policy, supported by broader business growth initiatives that encourage the uptake of of renewable energy technologies. As a result, most renewable energy projects in New Zealand must be financially viable and able to operate competitively in the open market with direct assistance.
The Government works in partnership with the Bioenergy Association and regional organisations to support organisations considering a transition from fossil fuels to bioenergy. This includes the use of biomass and other organic materials for the production of heat, liquid fuels and biogas energy.
This guide provides a summary of the support available to assist with the investigating and implementation of bioenergy projects. For further information or clarification, please contact us.
